ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
William Paterson University, Wayne, NJBachelor of Music, January 2004Major: MusicConcentration Jazz piano           University of New Orleans, NO, LAStudent of Jazz Pianist Ellis Marsalis
Overview:
I am a Jazz Pianist and NJ Certified Music Teacher. I've played and toured as a jazz musician all over the globe and am the former student of Ellis Marsalis who is hailed as the father of jazz notable Wynton Marsalis. My experience ranges both on stage as well as in the classroom. My teaching experience ranges from ages 4 to 80. Currently in October 2016 I released my debut Jazz CD 'Invocation'. I am also music curriculum writer working for a small program that teaches classroom music.Currently I teach high school group piano but also have PreK-8 experience teaching general music using the Little Kids Rock Guitar Curriculum
EXPERIENCE
It is my belief that every child deserves the gift of music. It brings me great joy to watch children of all ages embark upon the wonder that is music. My objective especially for younger learners is to keep my students both engaged and having fun. I have taught children piano, general music, and guitar in Chinatown NYC to as far south as Trinidad where I led a master class for elementary students. I encourage all my students to be engaged in their lesson and use various reaseach based methods . I also have worked with students with special needs.
METHODS USED
For my younger students I prefer using the Faber method books as well as "A Dozen A Day" for finger technique and dexterity.  For intermediate and older students I introduce repertoire pieces in addition to leveled method books by Alfred. As my students progress I introduce classical pieces as well as suitable pop pieces based on their interest My older and adult students tend to be more goal oriented in their learning so lessons are developed based on their in individual needs. Every lesson just like every student is uniquely different.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is light and fun and geared to the temperament of the child and the specific goals of the parent. My methods are traditional pedagogy. With younger students under the age of 5 and special needs students I make use of tactical manipulatives for example play doh to assist with fine motor skills. I also incorporate if needed coloring full body movement etc if needed. I try to set realistic goals with both the student and parent bringing various rewards and incentives for achievement.. If I had to describe my teaching style specifically I was say that I am positive, fun and engaging but firm if needed.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
