Specialist Certificate from Berklee College of Music. Audio Production -B.A. Digital Media Arts California State University. Audio Production. -Minor in Voice
Overview:
I strive to help each student find their own style while using traditional and organic approaches. Singing with the whole body is the key. Building confidence by choosing material that starts off easy and gradually gets more difficult. Learning to sing requires instant feedback which you will get in my online and studio lessons. I graduated from California State University at Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Audio Engineering and Minor in Voice. I have had the privilege of being the front vocalist for popular folk, jazz and rock bands on both the East and West Coast.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching voice for over 10 years and have been a vocalist for over 20. I believe that the instrument of voice is the most powerful and personal instrument you can learn to play. It is 80% mental and 20% technique. -I started teaching on one lessons in college. After college I began my own professional singing career and still perform several nights a week in restaurants, hotels, pubs, festivals and other events. I am also a session singer and have provided lead and background vocals to other projects. I am currently working on albums with my own band.
METHODS USED
I really tune into the students, starting by finding out what their past experinces are as a singer. I believe this contributes to theri vocal self esteem. We work on getting to a place of trust. I approach it with a fun and relaxed atmosphere but always set out the goals and outcomes from the beginning. I always teach the anatomy of voice and all the parts of the body that play a role in singing. Together we work on using all of these parts of the body to come to a place where singing becomes more natural while establishing good vocal habits. Music theory is always a part of ever lesson. I also strive to end the lesson on good outcomes so the students can feel they have accomplished something with every lesson.
LESSON STYLE
First and foremost, letting the singer know, that he or she can sing. Its about choosing the type of music you are passionate about. Its very difficult to sing with any skill and passion if you choose the wrong song or music you do not like. Many singers think they can not sing because they are trying to be "like" their favorite singer. But a singer has to find their own voice. You can learn things from other legendary singers but you are still you. So I'm all about helping you be the best singer you can be.
