It is a great joy a honor to share the musical gifts and experiences I have cultivated since childhood. Indeed, music is a way to retain some essence of the best of life. Every student can partake in this to their own ability and desire, given a well structured environment in which to flourish. My decades of professional performing and teaching strings provides just this environment. As we move into an age of technological advances, it is all the more important to impart the myriad of traditional skills which the study of music provides.
I have been teaching violin since my undergraduate days at The University of Connecticut, in their celebrated Suzuki Pedagogi program. From there on to the Hartt School and ever since, with a private studio in my home for 20 years and instructing and designing string programs in the Greater Hartford Area including the Hatford Public School System and Hartford Conservatory also within the East Hartford and Glastonbury school systems. While inviting innovation, my teaching philosophy is steeped in the traditional values of focus and dedication, for which there are no substitutes.
My teaching method is similar to the Suzuki Pedagogy in essence, however I have expanded much upon my early Suzuki Pedagogy training. I believe a skilled educator utilizes many avenues of knowledge to create a product individualized for each student, the years have taught me this. I also believe that it is vital for an excellent educator to understand that learning is a two way street. I pay attention to my students, I Iisten to them. That is how I learn from them. A good music lesson is like a good meal, nourishment for the soul!
My teaching style is that I provide a structured environment with very clear expectations and a calm, supportive atmosphere. Within this structure there is plenty of room to expand and explore, myself having developed creative music styles from strict classical to rock improvisation. From an idyllic afternoon in the sun by the shore to an adventure on the high seas, a music studio is the place! The ticket to this magical place? Quite simple: Regular attendance at lessons and faithful adherence to the practice schedule .
