other: 40 Years teaching experience
I am a professional guitar player and instructor living in Pickerington Ohio. I have retired from road work and now plan to dedicate all of my time to teaching. I have spent most of the last 20 years teaching 80 plus students a week. Though I did not attend college I started playing professionally at age 17 and have played Rock, Blues , and Country all over the United States ever since. I have studied the works of Don Mock, Ted Greene , Howard Roberts and Pat Martino in the guitar world as well as Barry Harris and others in the Jazz world . My knowledge of theory and my ear have allowed me to teach at a very high level for many years.
I have taught a heavy schedule of students most of my adult life. For the years between 1995 and 2001 my touring schedule as a road musician prevented me from teaching. Since returning in '02 until covid shut us down I averaged 80 private students a week. Summary Taught guitar at Plaza Music Trevos Pa 1985 - 1986 Taught guitar at Coyle music Columbus Ohio !987 - 1994 Taught guitar at Cowtown Gutars 1995 - 1996 Traveled professionally as a guitar player 1996 - 2002 Taught guitar at Metro Music 2002 - 2005 Taught guitar at Lang Music 2005 -2006 Taught guitar at Mid Ohio Music 2006 - 2010 Taught guitar and owned Mid Ohio Music Academy 2010 - 2020 Currently teaching from home in person and on Zoom.
Over my years of teaching I have developed various "games" and "fun" lessons to keep young ones interested while learning important skills. For older students and adults I adapt a teaching style based on what I refer to as the four pillars Pat Martino, Don Mock, Howard Roberts and Ted Greene into a lesson plan to suit the individual. I do not believe that a cookie cutter teaching method could possibly accomplish nearly as much. Finding a proper balance of theory , technique and songs for each student is more rewarding for the student and is my goal each and every lesson.
Like stated in my methods, I strive to provide the best lesson experience for each student. There is a certain ratio of theory to songs that must be achieved and it is different for every student . By teaching the student songs that they want to play we achieve the fun part required for any students success on their instrument. After this we can teach as much theory and technique as the individual desires. Not all students aspire to be professional players and not all students just want to play songs for fun. Finding the proper ratio of songs to theory for each individual is my goal.....
