Overview:
I am a recent graduate from Dickinson College with a BA in Music- Vocal Performance and Anthropology. Some of my recent major performance experiences include two solo recitals, including one featuring works of all women composers; Natalie in Next to Normal; and Frasquita in Carmen. I have interned in Florence, Italy with St. Mark's Opera, which is where I made my opera debut in Carmen. I am a passionate performer and excited teaching artist located in the Baltimore area. My areas of focus in performance include opera, contemporary classical music, musical theater, and choral singing.
EXPERIENCE
I am a beginning teaching artist in terms of private studio lessons, but I do have experience in group teaching settings. I am excited to teach students of all voice types and with any musical interest! Students can expect to begin singing in classical Italian, as I find these pieces greatly help students in learning the essentials of vocal technique; and for non-beginners, it is often very beneficial to revisit the fundamentals. However, students should feel free to express all of their interests in what they want to sing! I view my teaching style as exploratory and my studio as a welcoming space to develop each student's unique voice in a healthy way with the goal of students having fun and loving their voice more each time they come!
METHODS USED
For all students, I begin with assignments from 24 Italian Art Songs to teach fundamental vocal technique and develop a classical sound. Depending on the student's interest, they will also be assigned musical theater pieces or art songs in varying languages as well. As a student's ability level goes up, they will be assigned more difficult repertoire as appropriate. Each student will have the opportunity to showcase their work, no matter their level, in a studio recitals throughout the year. No matter what the student's interest or ability level, I try to keep my studio an engaging and fun safe space to explore and develop their talents.
LESSON STYLE
There are few things I love more than seeing a student's eyes light up when they're proud of what they have performed and accomplished! I try to help students set realistic goals that will make them feel happy and accomplished and let them move at their own pace. I view my studio as a warm place that students can feel safe in to explore their passion for music through their own voice. I like to get to know what the student's interests are both within and outside of music so I can best tailor their lessons to inspire them and help foster their love of music.
