I may be new to one on one lessons but I'm not new to teaching kids. Music is my passion and I want to share what I know with kids and adults that want to learn. I'm a motivated instructor for Ogden High and work for both the marching band and indoor programs and I've been teaching for 5 years. I want to build a solid studio of about 20 students for general music, flute and saxophone. I'm also capable of teaching the marching instrument, mellophone. I do have a service dog that will be in my studio, so if you have a dog allergy, I might not be the right choice. Outside of teaching I enjoy drawing, working out, writing music and playing video games.
I began teaching at Roy High in 2019. I spent 3 years there with the marching band and moved on to Ogden High in 2021. I completed my second fall season with Ogden and look forward to many more. I started as a piano player when I was four and I haven't stopped learning music since. I picked up flute in the 5th grade and learned alto sax my Junior year in high school. I stuck with sax throughout college and fell in love with classical saxophone. I finished my Bachelor's degree in the summer of 2022 and I'm looking forward to a long music career in teaching and performing.
Now that I am building my own woodwind studio, I want to emphasize learning the basics, as I lacked that in my own early schooling. Music fundamentals are the building blocks of successful musicians. My curriculum will include the Breeze Easy method books, Rubank beginner and intermediate books as well as Suzuki flute and piano books and other etude and repertoire pieces to help the students build a solid library of their own. I want to meet each student where they're at and help them learn as much as they are willing. I will provide scale sheets, fingering charts and a notebook for the student to keep track of their practice assignments.
I want my students to feel comfortable during lessons. After all, playing in front of someone can be scary! I strive to be warm and inviting while also providing direction and education. I put heave emphasis on the basics like scales (major and minor), circle of fifths, thirds and fifths, and sight reading. Having a solid understanding of fundamentals and their instrument will really set up the student for success in the future. I will happily acknowledge their accomplishments before noting things that need to be improved on.
Caitlin is a very very amazing teacher! She helped me with mellophone and cymbals in indoor, with her help and guidance I went on to March drum corps! She is very kind patient and caring and I cannot reccomend anyone better than her to teach!
