Overview:
I'm a vibrant and motivated teacher who loves working with students of all ages and most importantly, sharing my passion for music with those around me. In May of 2014, I graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Performance. I also received my Bachelor of Music degree in 2008 from Manhattan School of Music. I have had the amazing opportunity to perform at both Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York and at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In addition to touring globally, I have performed with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and the Boulder Philharmonic.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching my senior year of high school in California. Since then, I have established myself as a teacher in New York City, teaching both privately and in public schools. From 2013-2014, I was given a wonderful opportunity to teach students in Nebraska via the Distance Learning studio at Manhattan School of Music. Throughout my eight years of teaching, I have found myself constantly learning and growing as a teacher with my students. Regular practice and a "safe" environment are two key aspects I have found that result in student progress and ultimately, a passion for music making. I believe that making music should be fun, not a chore! If a student is not enjoying their lesson, then I'm not doing my job.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method for Flute. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for a first recital program. For intermediate to advanced students, I try to find out what the student is interested in, what they have previously worked on, and what their goals are musically. I like to focus on fundamentals such as extended scales in various patterns, etudes geared towards development of a specific technical aspect, and solo repertoire containing these fundamentals. If a student is involved with an ensemble (school/community band or orchestra), I encourage them to bring their music in to our lessons.
LESSON STYLE
To me, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing one of my students grow and develop their passion for music! Therefore, I believe it is imparitive that each student progresses at their own pace. To ensure this, I set realist goals for my students at each lesson. Encouragement and celebrating accomplishments are also incredibly important to me; these help fuel a students desire to progress and eager to learn more. When getting to know a student, I try to find out what inspires them and what their hobbies are. By doing this, I can tailor my lesson plans to their wants and needs.

Caitlyn is friendly, helpful and still holds my high-school aged daughter accountable for practicing. She also makes sure the music technique is mastered correctly during the lessons - they work hard and still have a good time together. I can highly recommend her as a flute teacher. My daughter is very happy & grateful to have found Caitlyn as a teacher.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
