BA, Wabash College, Music (2003)
Honors Diploma, Emerson School for the Visual and Performing Arts, Vocal Major (1999)
I am a lifelong musician who has a passion for teaching. I enjoy helping budding musicians find their voice and inspriation through their gift! I am a full time musician that shares the message of love, positivity, and marriage as I record original music and perform with my wife as RnB duo ISH. I have been fortunate enough to tour the country as a musician and I look forward to sharing that love of music with eager minds! I am a proud graduate of Wabash College with a Bachelor's Degree in music, with minors in French and Multicultural Studies. I truly believe in the benefits of an arts-infused education and how it promotes discipline, creativity, and expression.
I have been singing since the tender age of three! I have loved singing and performing since then. This love has propelled me into the classrooms where I honed my craft. I also learned the discipline of practicing on other instruments as I went through high school at Emerson School for the Visual and Performing Arts. I graduated with honors as a vocal major. I later attended Wabash College and graduated as the only music major in the class of 2003. I have been in the classroom for over 10 years and played an important role in 21st Century Charter School's music department; I WAS the music department, founding the school's first ever school band.
My methods are executed with one core value in mind: create a life long learner and lover of music. This means I establish the fundamentals of theory with beginning students and reinforce them with intermediate students. Before an instrument is played, the concepts of rhythm, note value, and scales must be approached in an engaging way. With collaboration over curriculum, I would work with the student to find his/her interests and inspiration, making the journey worthwhile and fun!
I use humor and my own experiences to first establish a caring environment in which the student can be comfortable. Once that connection is established, I like to find out the students interests and make sure a personal goal is set that we can achieve together. There has to be something exciting the student can achieve in order to develop self-motivation. I employ a number of tactics to stimulate self-expression and problem solving skills, as independent work and practice is crucial in any musician's journey. I believe in the tenet work hard, play hard!
