Associates In Music, Mesa College (2014)
Music has been my number one passion since childhood. I discovered the snare drum in my third grade music class, and I knew there was no turning back. It was around that same time I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I am currently obtaining my associates degree in music. I have been performing professionally and teaching around southern California for the last ten years. I am an active session musician and perform on national and international tours. My teaching studio is open during all hours of the day and has all the necessary equipment for lessons in every style.
I really began teaching drums by request around 10 years ago as I began performing, and just fell in love with the reward that comes along with it. With my passion for drumming next to my passion for teaching, there just isn't anything else that can provide me with more satisfaction.
Generally speaking if you are a beginner regardless of age, we will be exploring the basis of composition and connecting with music or finding a groove. You will be instructed on the importance of warming up, and how to create a personalized warm up routine, you will gain knowledge of rudiments and other various drumming exercises, sight reading, and most importantly proper technique. Generally if you are more advanced we go into dynamics, performance training, more advanced sight reading and technique discipline, exploration of various genres and styles, ostinatos, advanced interdependence exercises, and a multitude of other tools that will help further your individual growth, solos and creative expression.
My students can expect a fun and laid back learning experience. The initial phases will consist of really getting to know YOU and exploring your interest and personal goals as a drummer. Whether you are just starting out, looking to improve existing skills, or aspiring to become a professional musician, together we can build the foundation required to achieve your goals. I find it very important to learn the traditional rhythms and styles in every genre of music, then learn how to minipulate and break those musical rules and combine different aspects together to make something new and exciting. Exploring all ends of drumming is how you find your own voice behind your kit and can truly express from within.
