I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. As of the year 2023, I am twenty-two years old. In May 2023, I graduated from Hartwick College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with a concentration in vocal music. I have been in choirs since I was in elementary school. I took four years of private voice lessons over my years in college and I am mezzo soprano. In college, I also took piano lessons and music theory classes.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days. When I was in college I had the opportunity to student teach students from Pre Kindergarten to 12th grade. I mainly have experience with teaching younger children general music. Even though, I have limited experience with private instruction I had the chance to help students with their auditions to NYSSMA. Yet my degree program has prepared me for private instruction, with a class on vocal pedagogy. I have also taken eight semesters of private vocal lessons.
For younger children, I typically start with the fundamentals such as distinguishing between the head voice and the chest voice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for said student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in both repertoire and vocal goals, and guide my instruction according to their goals. I will also put input on what I believe they could develop and use that to guide my instruction.
I like to build units or goals for each student when private teaching . It helps me and the student know what needs to be worked on. I also tend to be a visual instructor , meaning I like to use tricks to teach students different vocal technique. Although I do not mind accommodating to a students needs if their instruction is to be taught differently. I want to make lessons as fun and educational as possible and I expect student to put in their input to what they want to learn. I also like to build a practice schedule for the students so they best succeed.
