Overview:
I am a passionate and movitated instructor and preformer who loves sharing my love of music.  I graduated from the Longy School of Music in 2008 where I earned my Master of Music in Flute Performance with Distinction studying under Robert Willoughby.  In 2005 I earned my Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance Magna Cum Laude from Kennesaw State University studying under Christina Smith and Carl Hall both of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  I have participated as a performer in numerous masterclasses as well as performed with the National Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my college days as I would frequently conduct flute sectionals for local middle schools.  I began teaching flute privately in 2008 after completing my Master of Music Degree.  I currently work with students and band programs in several counties in the metropolitan Atlanta area.  My students have been selected for both District Honor and All-State Band, as well as earned places at the University of Georgia middle and high school band clinics, received college scholarships, earned superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble festival, and often occupy the principal chair in their high school band programs.
METHODS USED
For beginning students I typically begin with either the Rubank Elementary Method Series, Flute 101 series or the Trevor Wye series. After our initial lesson together I will decide which flute method series is appropriate for each student.   I typically like to have a student continue through an entire series of books as it gives a good comprehensive guide to the basics of flute playing.  I also like to include duets in my lessons therefore I typically begin with the Rubank Duets Volume One and later progress to the advance method duets.  As a student progresses and has a firm grasp of the basics I begin to introduce various solo repertoire as well as etude books to allow them to continue to develop their tecnhique.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is collaborative, I believe in listening to what the student wants to get out of their lessons.  During the initial meeting I always ask the student what are their musical goals.  From there we develop a plan for the student to achieve those goals.  Even though I typically have a plan for each lesson in my mind prior to the lesson, I always ask the student if there is anything specific that has been giving them trouble throughout the week and I make sure that I cover that topic first.  I involve the student in the processing of choosing repertoire as well as I strongly believe that if the student likes the music they are more likely to practice and learn the material.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
