I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who enjoys and has years of experience teaching lessons. I graduated from University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition. I have performed all over the world primarily as a vocalist, but also as a guitarist, bassist, and pianist. I have played in multiple rock bands as a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and pianist at multiple acclaimed venues such as The Stone Pony, Warped Tour, and Bamboozle Festival. I have experience in the genres of rock, pop, classical, and musical theatre.
I started teaching private lessons in high school. I taught guitar, bass, piano, voice, and songwriting lessons at Biryukov Academy of Arts and Music for 5 years for both kids and adult beginners. I have performed, written and music directed a children's theatre tour where I taught children to sing, act, and perform in front of large crowds. I was trained classically in voice, but also have a strong passion for pop, rock, and musical theatre. I have also directed showcases and talent shows. I also work with audition preparation, if students are interested in pursuing their art as a profession!
I usually take the first lesson to gauge what the student wants from learning their specific instrument. If they want to learn a specific song, if they want to get better at a certain genre, or if they just want something to do as a hobby! I believe it is counterproductive to force a certain system or lesson series that the student is not interested in. I have tons of practice books, scales, and warmups that I like to use to help the student become more proficient and confident in their craft.
I'm a very optimistic person. I like to inspire my students, and watch them have fun and grow! Lessons should be a fun thing to look forward to. As a kid, I had many lessons and teachers that I did not enjoy going to, and I don't want that to be the case for my lessons. Learning a new musical skill is fun, and really fulfilling, and I want my students to feel that way when they work with me. As long as my students have a initial goal or passion for their desired instrument, success is always on the table.
