I'm a educator, performer and band leader graduated with honor at New England Conservatory, Boston MA, 2013 and Suma Cum Laude Berklee College Of Music, Boston, MA, 2011 My career is divided in two paths, teaching and performing professionally since 2004. As a performer I have been very active having the opportunity as band leader and side man in several music festivals and well known music venues. For example, Monterey International Jazz Festival in US, Jazz Od Nowa in Poland, Philharmonic Of Paris, France the Chicago Symphony for just mention a few.
I began teaching privately since 2004. Here in US, I taught at The New England Conservatory Preparatory School and Berklee College of Music Outreach Program as well at University Of North Texas as a teacher fellow. After several years teaching, I have learned that every students is a different world. Somehow my teaching protocol I will be always customized or adjust to the student's capacity. But one very important factor doesn't change, I'm referring to a consistency on individual practice between lessons.
For beginners, I typically start with fundamentals and technique combined with the, Essential Elements 2000. Once the student gets in track, I start introducing more advanced book such Rubank, J.H Luft, H.Klose and Feerling. For adults and more advanced students, most likely I develop a custom guide and protocol based on what their focus of interest is. I would provide the necessary information more related to Jazz music style and technique in order to develop a proper language. Similar approach I will do for student interested in or Classical music style.
I have been honored to teach and also prepare several students in my life. Some of them are today accomplished musicians, others are yet in music schools. For example I have 3 students already in Berklee and another student is in Juliard, NY. Other students, are non musicians wanting to learn saxophone and music. I always adapt my teaching style to their capacities and encourage then to move forward and develop their saxophone skills in order to achieve our mutual goal. I do like to provide to my students an effective suggestion on how to practice depending on the level of difficulty
Fantastic guy, teacher, and musician - the exercises he gives you are great and is very optimistic when trying to teach you. He has a lot of experience and is a very well-known professional sax player. I couldn't have found a better teacher and I'm very excited for my classes every single week. He's a Berklee College of Music professor - here is the post you can find there: Latin Grammy-nominated Cuban tenor saxophonist Carlos Averhoff Jr. is a contemporary Afro-Cuban jazz composer and educator described by All About Jazz as "a dynamic, fresh new voice on the saxophone." Exposed to music early on through his father and namesake, a legendary saxophonist and member of Chucho Valdes's Irakere, Averhoff was classically trained in his native Cuba and after completing extensive academic studies at Berklee and beyond, he now teaches woodwinds at Berklee's City Music Program. Averhoff has collaborated with an array of artists including Bob Moses, Horacio El Negro Hernandez, Chucho Valdes, Bill Pierce, Isaac Delgado, and Buena Vista Social Club, among many others. Says Averhoff of his alma mater: "Berklee is a universe of music connected to the world."
