I have been in love with music for as long as I can remember. It is an honor to be able to inspire, and help grow, students in their adventures in music like my previous teachers inspired, and helped me grow, in my love of music. I graduated from Judson College as a double major in Music and Religion. I have given a recital that included great composers like J.S. Bach to William Bolcom to Felix Mendelssohn. My college choir also was able to go to New York and premier a mass that our Choir director wrote. These two performance opportunities will forever be sketched in my memories.
I have been teaching since the summer of 2015. I have had students as young as three trough the age of early seventies. Since starting teaching at a private music school, I have found that classical music, along with modern music, helps to keep students of all ages engaged. Based on regular practice, fun music, and an upbeat atmosphere, students of all ages will learn music fundamentals and history all while having a great deal of fun. I look forward to meeting students of all ages and experience to help grow their love of music.
For beginner students who are children, I usually use Faber and faber method series or the Alfred method series. All curriculum is based on age, so that it will help students learn at their own pace and level. Once the student gets to a certain point, I start adding in fun pieces that the child suggest, or might like, to add to what he or she is already learning.
For an adult, or students around the age of twelve and up, I will use the adult versions of Faber and faber or Alfred. Again, once they have learned some of the beginnings materials, we will add fun songs along with the method series books. For all students who had material, we will talk about past experiences and figure out where to start together.
One of the best things in the world is to see a student struggle with the material for a little while on to discover that they can actually play what I am asking them to play. To see the student start seeing their talent, to see how far they have come and their love for music. It is one of the best feelings to see this change. By seeing what drives the student and through encouragement, I try to show each and every student that anything in music is possible. Especially things that seem difficult at the beginning. Anything is possible. Every student is possible.
