I began studying piano when I was 6 years old and developed a passion for music from a young age. I'm a graduate of the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley CA (B.M., ’16) where my teachers included Benny Green, Peter Horvath and Art Lande. In 2011 I began teaching piano and guitar lessons to children and adults in the San Fransisco Bay Area. In addition, I led and accompanied workshops for vocalists and instrumentalists at the California Jazz Conservatory while performing extensively throughout the region in Jazz, Blues, Rock, R&B and Pop groups. As a teacher I am is attentive, patient and adaptive; welcoming each students individual needs and goals. My lessons focus on fundamentals of performance, technique and theory, as well as customized methods tailored to spark students musical imagination.
I began teaching private music students in 2011 in the San Francisco bay area while I was in college for Jazz piano. I have taught all ages from children to adults and absolute beginners to advanced Jazz professionals. I use creative materials and concepts that the student will respond to in order to awaken their passion and musical growth. Each lesson is custom tailed to meet the students goals and engage them in their daily practice. Some of my advanced students have gone on to play professionally and pursue careers in the recording arts.
Music lessons should be fun and engaging. My goal is to spark my students inspiration and creativity. It is important that each student progresses at their own pace and I patiently track a students growth to ensure that they are getting the most out of their lessons. Deep listening and acknowledging accomplishments encourage students growth. I assign materials that will encourage the students' daily practice and foster and enjoyment of playing music. I encourage a creative approach to lessons and practice.
For beginning students who are children, I generally start with Faber & Fabers Piano Adventures series. When the student has developed a grasp of the fundamentals I will begin to introduce solo repertoire that will build upon that fundamental knowledge and engage them in the joy of performance. For adults, I engage the students interest in music and find repertoire and exercises that reflect their goals and desires. I custom-tailor methods for each of my students to keep them dynamically engaged and excited to practice.
