I am a newly graduated and motivated teacher who loves to share my passion for music. I have a Bachelors degree in General Studies , my primary focus was still music. I have recently received a Masters degree in Music Education. I have been playing an instrument and started playing when I was 10 years old, and on clarinet. At 12 years old I switched to oboe and I have have been playing it since then. I have performed with several ensembles throughout high school, college and graduate school and I have performed I n solo performances ( I was the primary performer) and have participated in several honors bands like all district, and all state bands. I love music and hope to travel and experience music of different cultures first hand.
I have been teaching lessons off and and on since I graduated high school. I like to encourage using a set schedule for lessons and practicing so that student can develop the habits they need to progress through musical learning. I like to find out if students like a certain type or genre of music so that we can see how this music connects with the classical studies and repertoire that is recommended for learning. It is important that students are enjoying their lessons and having fun, fun makes for memorable learning experiences. I encourage students to audition for honors bands, competitions and recitals so that they can enjoy their accomplishments and find the motivation they need to learn. I am always looking for new students of all ages.
For beginning students I like to Rubank: Elementary Method to learn fundamentals. After learning fundamentals and introduction to solo repertoire or etudes will be used next. I like to try and find out what interests my students and tailor my instruction around their needs, interests. As each step is mastered we will move on to the next step , I like to use the Rubank method books, for elementary method, intermediate methods and advanced methods along with Selected studies book by Voxman. Other books may be chosen if there is a need.
I love sharing my passion For music and nothing is more rewarding than seeing a students face light up when they recognize their accomplishment. I like to move through each lesson at a pace that is comfortable for the students. I love to build lessons that students are going to be motivated for by building lessons for their specific need and interest. It is a wonderful feeling when your progress and accomplishments are recognized and it can encourage student to want to learn more. I like to find out what inspires each student so that each lesson encourages memorable musical moments.
