Hi, I'm Cassidy! I've been singing ever since I was a little girl and studied Vocal Performance and Wheaton College. I've performed in more than 30 musicals and have had the opportunity to perform in Chicago, New York, Washington DC, and London. I am most trained in teaching musical theater and classical styles but I also love to teach pop, R&B, folk, and more contemporary genres. I play guitar and piano as well and would be open to teaching any of my vocal students the basics of either instrument so that they can accompany themselves in practice.
A Grand Haven Native, she has been involved with music in West Michigan for over 10 years. Cassidy has performed in a number of musicals, concerts, operas and vocal competitions throughout the West Michigan and Chicago area. She has taught private lessons in Chicago and Grand Rapids. She has also led vocal instruction for a number of musicals with Lakeshore Theater and Dance and directed the Youth Worship Band at Covenant Life Church. Cassidy has also been very involved in the West Michigan music business scene. She has promoted local musicians by designing posters, creating electronic press kits and booking shows with Michigan venues. Cassidy also founded 1202 Sessions, a promotional media service for musicians. Through 1202 Sessions, Cassidy has partnered with Carbon Stories, a media agency, to promote many local musicians by directing music videos, hosting concerts at Art Prize and putting on album release parties.
With an individualized approach, I teach musicians of varying ages and skill-levels through different genres (classical, musical theater, opera, R&B, pop, folk, jazz, contemporary worship, etc). My lessons are developed to meet the needs of each student on their musical path. Correct posture and vocal health always come first. During the first few lessons, I work with my students to develop individualized warm-ups and musical exercises that build good musical habit and undo any bad habits that have formed.
After developing habit-building exercises, my intent as a teacher is to find the balance between encouragement and challenge that each student needs to grow. My goal is to develop and cultivate an excitement for musical practice by helping them discover their own musical style and sound. In my lessons, I will spend time working both on songs that my students choose to keep them excited and motivated along with songs that will challenge them or teach them a new technical practice. I'm a very adaptive teacher and make sure to create a curriculum and teaching style that best meets each student that I have.
