I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves to teach the world of music involving the flute. I started playing since I was 12 years old and grew a love and passion for it. I did make the New World School of the Arts school but chose to stay at my local high school. I used the experience of music to help me get through tough times and as music is also therapeutic. I have made All County Honor Band countless of times first chair as well as accomplished straight superiors for Solos and Ensembles festivals. I eventually landed a full scholarship to Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University however I stayed local to help my disabled mother and graduated at Miami-Dade College with my Associates in Music and Music Education.
My teaching experience stems from the age of 13 years old. I began working on the side after school tutoring my fellow classmates and have always continued to provide my tutoring services ever since. I love to teach students and make it a fun yet challenging environment for whatever occasion. Making music is always a wonderful thing and I like to also incorporate duets we can work on together and even perform it somewhere of your choice. I begin with teaching the basics of counting and reading music to taking apart a hard piece. It is a fulfilling experience.
For beginning students I like to start with the Standard of Excellence book 1. Getting through that book we would advance to Rubanks Advanced Method Vol. 1 book. Perfecting the sound and tone is key to making a piece of music sound good followed by inputting expression and giving it color to a piece making it have more characteristic than just a piece of music. I try to keep it fun and exciting to keep the interest in learn stay captivated no matter their ability level. I also have patience on finding the perfect learning style to incorporate for better learning.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my student develop on the flute. It is a beautiful instrument and can have such style in all types of music. It is important that each student flourishes at their comfort to want to go forward and learn more. I like to encourage with realistic goals for each lesson and always acknowledge whatever progress made. Making the student to continue and want to learn more and eventually make beautiful music. I am adaptable to the students needs to design a structure where they are able to learn.
