I am an all around drummer who is been performing professionally over thirty years. My musical education started in Percussion Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. I've got my AA degree in Music at Los Angeles City College , later I graduated from Berklee College of Music receiving my BA in performance. Being an all around drummer I've been fortunate to perform with greats both in Jazz and Rock&Roll. My performance credits include greats like Lee Konitz, Dave Samuels, Chip Crawford in Jazz and well known Turkish Rock Bands Duman, Kesmeseker, Bulutsuzluk Ozlemi in Rock&Roll
I've started giving private lessons when I was a student at music school and I took great enjoyment from sharing my newly acquired knowledge. Later my first formal teaching job took place in Musicians Institute as Teacher's Assistant. I've been a member of the Los Angeles City College advisory board in 1999 and I've thought as a full time teacher at Istanbul Bilgi University Music Department from 2000 to 2008. I am proud of my students, many of them turned out to be professionals who are performing with prestigious artists today.
I use different methods for students over 12 years of age and younger students. For the first group I base my teaching on Alan Dawson and Gary Chester style systems using variations for the students level and needs. For the second group I like using a Bobby Deitch method adding a play along list.. For both group , according to the musical needs of the student I might add some of my original material, some transcriptions, Wilcoxin Snare Drum Solo's, materials from Stick Control and Syncopation books.
The Advanced Student is not required to perform all the material for the next lesson, as long as he or she can demonstrate that the idea behind that particular subject matter is understood the lessons will move forward. My lessons are designed to transfer info to the advanced student so that he or she can design own studies after finishing studying with me. Intermediate and beginner students are required to perform all the assignments for the next lesson. Assignments will be given according to students own pace, assignments will be pushing a little but will never be overwhelming so that each student can enjoy the wonderful feeling of playing music on drums.
