Course Work: University of Maryland Baltimore County
I am incredibly passionate about music performance and music education and I’d love to work with people who wish to accomplish heir hoped and dreams and have a goal and becoming better musicians! I began singing when I was around two years and began seriously pursuing music when I was in middle school. In 2017, I auditioned for and attended my town’s performing arts high school which further improved my passion for performing and teaching. In 2021, I started college wand I currently major in Music Performance with a concentration in voice! I am still learning everyday but am qualified to teach beginners and intermediate levels.
I have not yet taught professionally. That is one of the goals that I am currently pursuing by beginning my teaching journey now! However, I do have a lot of experience teaching nonprofessionally! In the past, I have taught and directed my church choir and praise team. I was voted to be my colleges all-female a cappella groups music director and am currently serving in that role. I give my friends and family laid back voice lessons frequently and they all tell. E how much they have improved since taking lessons with me. I have experience with all different types of genres of music, Classical, opera, contemporary, gospel, pop, musical theater, etc, I have performed in operas, musicals, classical recitals, etc. I will always make sure that my studio is a fun yet educational space where my students feel happy and worry less when they come to me for lessons.
All students are different and therefore will require different methods of teaching. I plan on assessing and observing each student to see what method will work best for them. I learned the Kodaly method in school and plan on using that method for my students. As far as technique and other aspects of my teaching, I will decide that specifically once I meet my student and have an idea of how they can learn best! After my beginner students have understood the fundamentals of music, I will assign repertoire appropriate for their level. For my intermediate and advanced students, I will assign repertoire appropriate for their level and begin to prepare them for upcoming recitals, auditions, etc.
Each student is VERY different. Their pacing will be different, their level of experience will be different, the genres that they want to learn will be different, etc. Because of this, my teaching style will vary for each specific student. For my students first lesson, I will get to know them as a person and understand how they learn. I will also ask them to prepare a song of their choice for me to listen to. I will then evaluate the level they're at as far as singing technicalities, experience, etc and then I will work from there. Again, every student is different and I will do everything I can to make sure that my method of teaching will cater to each specific student.
