I'm a passionate musician and teacher and would love to be your instructor! My love and experience is primarily in guitar, voice, and piano. I graduated from Gordon college in 2008 with a degree in music education and taught K-8 grade for several years, which included directing children's choirs, teaching private lessons, and teaching general music to many ages. Teaching keyboard and singing was a highlight in the classroom setting. After a few years of teaching I became a mom and have transitioned from full time teaching to raise my three girls. I am currently the worship/band director at my church and am very active in playing and singing. Music is a gift that I would love to share with you!
I began teaching private lessons in college and continued to teach one on one lessons and larger group lessons for the next several years. The key to success in lessons is to practice at home and come ready to learn and have fun! Anything worth doing will come with challenges and hard work, and there are few things and gratifying as learning to sing or playing an instrument! Music is "whole brain" learning that combines our intellect, our fine motor skills, our affections, and our ability to multitask.
For beginners of any age, foundations of music theory are essential. I am familiar with multiple curricular options. From the very first lesson, however, its essential to be making music and experiencing musical moments to encourage students to keep going! As students become proficient in the basics, I will lean into their musical interests and teach what they love, helping them reach their musical goals and beyond. The goal is to keep lessons fresh, engaging, and fun. As the student, the pace is up to you! I will work with you and encourage you to reach your potential.
Its amazing to watch my students fall in love with their instrument and gain confidence and joy from learning to play. Everyone is different and will need to go at their own pace. My job is more of a "coach" - setting up structures and practices to help you succeed but not doing the work for you! I will help fuel your desire to grow as a musician and encourage you to progress at your own pace while celebrating each and every success along the way while tailoring my instruction based on my students needs and goals.
