2008-2012 - Berklee College Of Music Merit Scholarship
I'm a classical pianist and performer with over 20 years of training in classical music and theory. I received my Bachelors of Music in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, with a focus on piano performance and composition. My studies ranged from classical to jazz performance, classical composition, contemporary songwriting and lyric writing, and classical and jazz theory. My experiences throughout my journey in music are central to my approach to teaching. To get the best out of music one must bring the best out of the student, fostering a love of the art through passion, patience, and encouragement. Music has been a lifelong joy for me that began at the age of 4 and, after a lifetime of studying and competing and growing in music, I hope to share that joy to help create the same love, enthusiasm, and passion for music in every student. “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” -Plato
I began my journey teaching in college when I became a tutor for underclassmen and women who desired extra guidance and insight in certain areas, which included music theory, composition, and performance. Since then I have taught in-home, in-studio, and online lessons regularly for over 5 years. Currently, I have upwards of 40 students of varying ages and levels, all very motivated and engaged in music. Teaching such a diverse circle of students and adapting to their learning styles has proven to be my greatest lesson in music.
Beginner Students: Children- I begin with the Faber introductory books which are fun, engaging, and easy to follow. My primary goal in the first year is to instill a sense of play in music while the student developes a regular practice routine. Teens/Adults- We begin with an accelerated curriculum that seamlessly walks the student through the fundamentals of reading notes, understanding theory, and proper technique at an enjoyable pace. Helping new students become comfortable in taking on this new skill is as equally valuable to learning as the skill itself! Intermediate/Advanced Students: Lesson plans are dependent on the student's area of study and future goals.
Passion, Patience, and Encouragement. While scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises are central to every pianist's training, I'm a believer in fostering a student's love of music first and foremost. Without the curiosity and love of music fueling our practice it can become work rather than what its meant to be.. play. My approach to teaching is to introduce passion for music through patience and encouragement. Through this window we'll explore the infinite landscape and, indeed, the infinite freedom music has to offer.
