I am a flutist with 20+ years experience teaching private lessons all over the world. After I graduated with my bachelors in Music Performance, I moved to Central Asia where I helped to open a music school for underprivileged children, and I played in the National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. I have since then received my Masters in Music Education, and moved to the Middle East where I taught both private lesson and classroom music for 10 years. I love all the international experiences I have had, and it helps me to connect with all sorts of different people, and many different kinds of music.
My first teaching experience was teaching group recorder lessons in my home town, since then I have taught all over the world in many different systems. I particularly love working with beginner flutists and helping them to find their voice on the flute and discover the joys of playing. If a student is young I often suggest starting on the recorder in order for them to develop their skills and prepare them for switching to the flute later. My students regularly enter recitals and competitions, and have taken ABRSM exams and Russian music exams. I enjoy working with a student to help them to find the style and type of music they enjoy playing, as well as helping them to learn the foundational techniques needed to excel.
For all of my students I like to approach the lesson through the lens of preparation, skills, solos, and fun. I believe it is very important to prepare the mind and the body for the lesson to get the maximum benefit. In all of my lessons I begin with appropriate warm-ups before moving on to skills and technique. I use a variety of method books depending on the goals and wishes of my students, and I tailor them to make sure they are learning all the skills they need to be able to play the solos and fun music that they want to learn.
I love teaching private lessons, and I hope my students love taking lessons as well! I will always work with the student to make sure they are getting out of the lessons all that they want to, and that they are playing and performing the music that they love. I have worked with students with all different levels of goals, and I can adjust the rigor and pace of the lessons to meet the student where they are at. I am very organized and always send the student home with notes from the lessons, along with goals for the next lesson so they can track their progress.
