Overview:
Hello! , I am a soon to be graduate of the music Industry program at State University of Fredonia and a passionate musician at that. I love the idea of being able to expose individuals to the universe that is music, I have had the opportunity to play with various bands along with ensembles with the opportunity to study under various established jazz musicians as well. Looking to pass on the musical torch I am excited to work as a teacher under Musika applying my knowledge all the while learning at the same time.
EXPERIENCE
I have 17 years of experience playing and performing drums not limited to the drum kit. Having studied and received several forms of instruction throughout the years I was able to pick and pull from the various teaching styles and form my own. Like almost anything Practice is an essential element to learning something new so I try to incorporate fun and effective techniques that make practicing fun. My goal as an instructor is for the student to enjoy the instrument and approach it in their own way through certain techniques that may be of use.
METHODS USED
I love to kick off sessions with a student by asking them a couple of questions concerning there interests and what they specifically are looking to learn as each student is different and each students background varies. If a student is a beginner I will usually begin with a good entry level book called Stick Control which covers how to properly hold the sticks along with basic rudiments that coincide with music theory being able to play quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes. I will usually incorporate these techniques around the student if they are a beginner applying them in a fashion that helps them meet their musical goal.
LESSON STYLE
I firmly believe that in order to be proficient in anything it's important to make it your own and simply have fun. I would not be doing my job properly if my student did not have fun or find creativity within the learning process, coming up with silly phrases or thinking about a certain concept in a way that is creative and abstract is my preferred method. I like to ask my students to use there imagination in a way that essentially not only helps them learn but restructures the way they view learning and practicing in general.
