Teaching Certificate: Calvary School of Worship

Overview:

My name is Cheyenne and i'm a passionate instructor who loves working with students of any age or ability. I hold credentials through Calvary Chapel School of Worship & currently oversea the music ministry at His Place Church in Westminster. I currently reside in Irvine with my husband and two English bulldogs. I aim to provide the highest quality music education to students of all ages and levels. I believe that music is a vital part of life and strive to instill a love for music in all of my students. I create an individual lesson plan for each student's interests and ability

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience goes back almost 8 years ago. I had joined a worship band for the church and one of the guitar players asked me for lessons to help him better understand how to play in a band. I traveled to his home and several others by word of mouth. A few years later I launched my own private lessons out of my home. Continually my personal lessons, I then worked part time with a private music academy for 5 years. I have now transitioned to work completely out of my home studio. I build each lesson custom to every student. Younger students, I encourage to practice at least 10 minutes a day. Older and more advance students, I encourage anywhere from 15-20 minutes a day. The goal is to build a habit slowly so that it sticks!

METHODS USED

I do enjoy teaching out of books, especially younger children. It gives a visual to emphasize what I am teaching. A lot of the books I use are from Hal Leonard, but then I also have custom exercises for all different genres of music. Younger students, I tend to teach reading music with single notes as it is easier on the hands. It then creates an avenue to introduce basic music theory concepts. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in and then create a lesson off of that. I always keep my lessons fun and engaging!

LESSON STYLE

Every student progresses at their own pace. I write out the homework for the week on a piece of paper for both them and the parent to see. When their expectations are written out, it's easier to see how far they've progressed. Most of my lessons start out with asking how their week went and how much practice they were able to get in. We then review the material from the week before and talk about the progress or any difficulties they may have come across during the week. There I decide if it's time to progress or add on an exercise to help with progress. I try to bring new inspirations in different exercises to encourage the student, especially if we're doing a piece for multiple weeks in a row.

I am immensely grateful for Cheyenne’s expertise on teaching my child guitar. Her patience , encouragement, gentleness and knowledge made a great impact towards my child lesson.

Cheyenne is exactly the person you read about…an excellent teacher of all aspects of playing guitar who also brings to the experience unbelievable patience. I started learning to play the guitar with an extensive experience with a brass instrument but no experience of both guitar technique and/or the music I needed to learn to read. Cheyenne has patiently guided me through both aspects with logical weekly lessons and homework but equally important, she made it clear to me from the start that for me to succeed I would need to practice daily… she did not guarantee success without the daily practice…and she was totally correct. Finally, since beginning taking weekly lessons with Cheyenne, I have made steady progress but equally important, Cheyenne has become a good friend whom I look forward to seeing weekly. In short, I am extremely happy that I chose her as my teacher and that she agreed to take me on as one of her students, even if I was 70 years old!! I strongly recommend Cheyenne to anyone who is seriously interested in learning as a beginner or already knows how to play but wants to improve their skills with either electrical or acoustic guitar. It will be a decision that you will never regret.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
