Major with Honors
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude) from Berklee college of Music in Interdisciplinary Music Studies and Music Composition for films and games. I play and teach India drums. I have also performed classical solo in New Jersey. I have been learning Indian classical vocal for last 20 years and In Berklee I have got training on all different genres of western music. I had opportunity to accompany on Tabla ( Indian Drums) to various Dance forms and also with voice. I enjoy fusion without losing its classical basis. I am very excited to be part of Musika and to teach what i have learned in many years.
I began teaching private lessons since last 3 years. I encourage everyone to get basic classical training first to have perfect pitch. I encourage my students to enter competition, recitals and also give music exams. I also encourage them to improvise on the idea or on the song. I also encourage them to listen to good music as one also learns many things by listening.. Regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I always emphasize for all students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion. I am teaching few adults to correct the notes/pitch for few of the songs they like to master.
I assess student and their current level and based on that I decide whether to start with Basic or little advanced etc.. Also I try to understand their objective of learning music, what they wish to gain. For eg. some just wish to learn to be able to perform with friends, some wants to take this up as profession in future. Some just wish to add extra points for their academics. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to go more advanced. I emphasize on regular practice and recording their own voice to check and identify their own mistakes.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music and they start performing ! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and I also give them homework to practice. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. I always prefer to achieve some degree of perfection before i progress to next level..
