Victor Hugo once said "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." The human voice when we sing becomes an instrument of great and even mysterious power. I am most myself when I am singing, and I am passionate about helping others finding their unique, God-given vocal paths into this realm of power and passion.
I have been singing for over 30 years with performances that run the gambit from opera to gospel. I have been teaching and coaching voice for the last 12 years. I've taught the very young voice just beginning to find it's place. I've taught the well seasoned voice of adults in their later years seeking to maintain healthy vocal habits. I enjoy performing across a wide range of vocal styles.
Our voices are as unique as we are as individuals. I approach each student and sometimes each lesson from this perspective. Fundamentally singing is an aerodynamic process. My primary and most fundamental objective is to give my students pathways to understanding and using the power of breath to energize their singing. This energy is required regardless of vocal style. My ultimate aim is to give my students more tools and more colors in their vocal palette so that they become the artistic communicators they want to be.
The process of vocal study requires the establishment of a relationship. I believe that this relationship must be built on mutual respect, intentional listening on the part of the student and the teacher, and emotional safety. I also believe that students must enjoy their lessons. Learning to sing can be a challenging process that sometimes stirs up fears and insecurities. I seek to be honest about those challenges and promote a positive atmosphere that builds upon successes.
