Performed at Carnegie Hall in high school
Since a very early age, I have been obsessed with music. I began playing drums at age 9 and guitar at age 10. I played in Concert/orchestra and Jazz bands all throughout elementary, middle, high school, and college. I have also been apart of numerous bands of my own. I have played hundreds of professional, paid gigs on guitar, drums, and bass. I have toured the US, played locally in New England, and been apart of many recording projects. In addition to my expertise with guitar, bass, and drums, I also spend a lot of time recording and mixing. I would be so happy to help if you want to learn your instrument, receive advice on performing/gigging, or learn about recording.
I taught at two private studios in New Hampshire while in college. I also have taught students online and in person through my own private lesson business. My students have ranged from from 3 years old, to 65+. Ultimately, playing music is about having fun and expressing yourself. Learning your favorite music, understanding how it's made, and then applying that information to create your own music is how we nurture our creative musical abilities. Music can also be a healthy challenge. Difficult passages or songs may come up at school, band practice, or learning a song. Learning how to work through these difficulties makes you a better musician, and a better person! I can help you learn by ear, read notes, and read tablature, and tackle almost any style of music.
There are certain books I recommend depending on the students desires and skill level. I have a lot of excerpts from books that I can give to my students to use in our lessons and their own practice time. I like to include a brief write-up of what we covered in our lesson, and what the student should practice before our next lesson. This keeps the student on track and relieves stress about remembering everything we talked about. Most students want to learn their favorite songs and learn how to write their own songs. Providing new students with fundamentals is essential for navigating the instrument. Helping them understand the necessary components to a song their learning speeds up the learning process and removes frustration on their end. More advanced students may want to develop new techniques and tackle challenging repertoire for school or professional settings. I have been developing my technique for over 15 years and have plenty of advice and systems to show advanced students.
My teaching style focuses on addressing the students desires and getting them to acknowledge their progress. Music is about having fun and being inspired by your favorite music. Pinpointing what a student needs to learn their favorite songs helps them progress quickly while being fulfilled. Translating these song-learning skills into song-writing skills is the gateway to artistic freedom. There is also a competitive and academic aspect to music that I am well-versed in. I have a lot to offer more serious musicians who are learning challenging repertoire or learning difficult techniques. While discipline and focus is required at this level, it is also extremely fulfilling and should remain fun for the student.
