ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Currently Pursuing BS in English/Creative Writing
Overview:
I have always loved music. I write and create music everyday. When I graduated high school I earned a band scholarship which allowed me to play in many different genres of music. I played in Big Jazz bands, Small Jazz combos, and pit orchestras. I toured with the Pittsburg State University Jazz Band and played timpani and snare for The Pittsburg State University Syphonic band. All four years. Fast Forward, in 2001 I placed an original piece of music in a film called "Punks". Today, I produce music for 8 different Hip Hop and R&B artist.
EXPERIENCE
During college, a woman and her son saw a Jazz combo show I played drum set in and after the set, She asked me if I would teach her son. I agreed. I taught her son for a year. Sadly, they moved away but the word spread and the next year I had two more students. It contuied that way as I progressed in college my teaching improved. When I moved to California in 1997, I had seven students to teach on the weekends. I did this for 3 years. I always had a natural ability to teach anythign that I know. From reading, writing, producing, developement and managing a students as well as a few Artist.
METHODS USED
For young students who have never played before they are introduced to a fun and easy book called Hal Leonard's Drum Set Method. After a quick assessment I apply some adjustments to there playing and quickly assign some fun homework. Simply and effective for their style of playing. For adults, I asked them to play for me a few bars and drum patterns. I check their ability to read, improvise and how strong their "pocket "is. (i.e. Their ability to keep time) Once that is complete, i ask them to share their goals and what exactly they want me to teach them.
LESSON STYLE
I set fun goals and I challenge each student every step of the way to help them reach them. I point out their strengths yet I keep a close eye on their weaknesses and work with them to eliminate any all bad habits in playing instruments. After a few weeks I quiz them and reward them for overcoming any obstacles. I really like to have my students play in front of friends and family after around 3 months of studying. I've found that it helps the students with stage fright if they are constanty playing in front of a small (or large) crowd.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
