I'm a dedicated musician and instructor eager to develop ones musical abilities. Prior to attending the John J. Cali School of Music, I began performing throughout the tri-state area as a hired musician. While immersed in the multiple ensembles offered at school, I would also be involved in studio recording sessions, hired by artists and composers of various genres. After my time at the school of music, I have been awarded various opportunities that have allowed me to travel and perform around the world.
Prior to enrolling in a music school, I developed an unexpected interest in teaching. Assisting struggling peers brought self awareness and inevitably made me, as well as the overall group better, allowing me to understand a connection between music performance and education. Time spent at the school of music, teaching or exchanging ideas and skills between peers solidified my thoughts, the exchange between student and teacher is mutually beneficial at any level. As that further motivated me, I continued to perform and develop musicians skills.
Taking the time to understand my students, their ability to retain information, and execute, as well as their interests, goals and desires musically, is vital to my success as an instructor. While I use many of the collection of standard method books, I find creating unique exercises designed to target weaker areas in a particular persons playing to be more efficient, in cases, accelerating their grasp of fundamentals. Throughout ones progression, repertoire is introduced to reinforce techniques in a musical fashion.
My instruction is tailored to the specific musical goals and needs of the individual student, however, a students progression is paced by the individual. A significant aspect of my teaching style is my understanding of the various ways in which people learn and the vast amount of tools I utilize to impart information. The balanced acknowledgement of a students strengths and weakness tends to encourage their desire to progress, while setting attainable goals can motivate that process to result continuously.
