Hi there! I'm a Sacramento based violinist, violist, and bass player. I've been an instructor since 2020 and have had the privilege to work with some great students who I've gotten to explore their creativity with. I studied music at Sacramento State's School of Music at the age of 16 and began studying viola under Anna Kruger as well as chamber music under Anna Presler and Andy Luchansky. I also was granted the opportunity to study under William Barbini, a former New York philharmonic violinist and a student of Ivan Galamian. Under these teachers I've been fortunate to travel all over the country playing violin, one such location being Carnegie Hall for the crescendo competition. In recent years, I am currently now at Lipscomb University where I'm studying Biochemistry and Music. At Lipscomb, I continued to develop my music education but in a different fashion. I studied bass under Rob Byus, Blake Shelton's bass player. I was selected to play for Lipscomb's jazz, and commercial ensembles as a bass player and chosen to be part of the Avalon quartet as a violist. I am continuing to study at Lipscomb currently. My hope is to give my students the same opportunities I was given as a young musician and help them realize their potential. I also want to help my students build their confidence both as a musician and an individual.
I began teaching in 2020 during the pandemic. My experience during then was mostly through online lessons. During these lessons, I organized group sessions for students and recitals where they were able to showcase their ability. In 2021 I began lessons in person and also expanded to teaching bass as well. My former students currently are members of their youth orchestras as well as musicians in some of the local bands. My hope is to enable students to play whatever genre they desire, whether that be classical, jazz, or even pop. While my teaching style does focus on technique, my hope is to enable students to get to a point where they are able to express themselves freely without having to focus on technique.
Typically for beginning students, I like to introduce students to basic theory such as reading music and understanding chord structure. My teaching styles for bass and violin vary widely. For violin students, I typically like to focus on developing their technique so that they are able to have a good foundation for playing in the future. For bass students, I like to focus on developing their ear early on so that they are able to be very versatile in their playing and be able to adapt to the genre they are playing. I try to keep my students engaged by making games for them to play while practicing. I also like to keep my students set on a goal for a given period, I believe this motivates them to push themselves. I try to be understanding of every students circumstances, so I'm understanding if a student doesn't practice for a given week. While I would like all my students to practice, I first and foremost believe consistency is important so just keeping them on the right track is often satisfactory to me. I hope to empower all my students to be able to share their music to the world.
I enjoy seeing my students having fun while playing music. My hope is to enable all my students to be able to get to a point where they are enjoying their own playing. I try to be very understanding as a teacher and establish a genuine relationship with my students so later down the line, I'm not only a music instructor to them but also a mentor they can come to in times of need. I hope to help my students build their confidence through music in a fashion that it can translate to their everyday lives. In pursuing this goal I often try to be very supportive of my students and practice positive affirmation during lessons. I also try to be very patient with my students so that they are able to succeed in an environment that doesn't put to much pressure on them.
