Overview:

I am an innovative and energetic instructor who loves learning with her students. In 2012, I graduated with my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan, with a Minor in French and Francophone Studies. In my career, I frequently perform in Opera, Musical Theater, Jazz, and Dance, believing that a strong technique and performance principles can carry through genres. In addition to musical training, I have extensive acting and dance training, including classical ballet, improvisation, and authentic movement, which I often integrate into my teaching. I have performed with Detroit companies such as Opera MODO and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, as well as premiering new works at Planet Ant Theater. Now based in NYC, I am so excited to share my innovative teaching philosophy with my students!

EXPERIENCE

For the last 5 years, I have enjoyed growing with my voice and piano students. I delight in working with a wide range of students, from beginners to advanced and professional singers. My goal is to discover the true instrument inside of the student, and empower them to use it however they choose. Innovative teaching techniques are my go-to, including movement and acting work. However, I place a strong emphasis on musicianship for beginners to take ownership of their craft.

I love working with students on pop, rock, jazz, musical theater, and classical. Part of my specialty is working with young musical theater singers and professional pop and indie singers, however beginners and amateur students are WELCOME in this studio! I also emphasize vocal health in my teaching, equipping my students with tools to protect their instrument!

METHODS USED

Each student is so unique, so I tailor my curriculum to fit their goals. However, I ensure that each student walks away with ownership over the fundamentals of singing technique, so that they can grow on their own. We begin with a strong foundation and breathing technique, then weave in supported singing. With emphasis on breathing, we liberate the sound and expand the range. Then, we work to find resonance and beauty in the sound, so that the student may sing whatever style they choose! For beginners, we introduce note reading, piano, and rhythm into lessons first, and even work on writing our own songs as the voice develops!

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more exciting than watching my student build confidence in their talents. Therefore, it is vital that I create a relaxed and comfortable environment for my students. We are learning together; I just provide the guidance and tools! Lessons are tailored to each student, and I love to structure lessons in different ways to add energy and intrigue to the lesson. I find it so helpful to set big goals at the beginning of each month, and then celebrate small successes along the way. These lessons are to EMPOWER my students! I want each of them to relish in their accomplishments, while we undertake challenges together.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
