Overview:
I am currently fourth year senior Music Education major student at Western Connecticut State University who will be earning a B.S. Music Education in May 2019. I am currently a classical voice student in my studies, but serve as the accompanist for the Western Connecticut State University Concert Chorale. I have had numerous opportunities to perform in various operas within the state of CT, which recently include WCSU Opera Ensemble, Yale Opera, and the Torrington Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, I am the organist at All Saint's Episcopal Church in Oakville, CT, and actively play in pit orchestras throughout the state.
EXPERIENCE
I am currently a private voice and piano teacher in the Danbury/Bethel area. To me, encouragement of proper practice skills is vital in the process of learning for students at any age. With the addition to encouraging individual practice skills, I find it key to ask parents to partake in their child's practice skills, as well. Additionally, the encouragement of learning music that appeals to a student is important to me -- if a student is engaged in the music they are learning, it will be more beneficial, enjoyable, and meaningful for the student.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I use Faber Methods. Once the student has progressed, I would introduce solo repertoire that supports the skills necessary for improvement. Usually, I ask students if they are DYING to learn a piece, and with that selection, I'll look for techniques that can be improved upon. For adults, I try to ask what they are interested in learning, and help gauge the technique into their learning. Because adults learn differently from children, it is key to help integrate a different method of learning.
LESSON STYLE
To me, the most rewarding thing to see is seeing your students develop the same passion you did when you were their age! As an educator, I believe that no two students are exactly alike -- each student has their own strengths and learn at different paces. It's important to use those strengths and foster them to achieve the best possible goal. By finding out what interests the student, I can cater to their individual needs, wants, and creativity. I look forward to all of my students achieving their goal and constantly want to encourage them to explore further.
