I have been a percussionist for 10 years now, I am currently studying at the University of Delaware and getting my master's in Percussion Performance. I also got my undergraduate degree at UD in Music Education with a percussion focus, I am certified to teach K-12 instrumental, vocal, and general music. I have been on two international tours to China and Spain with an orchestra and wind ensemble, I gig regularly, and I have studio recording experience. While I have experience in many areas of percussion, my specialty is the steel pan! I really enjoy being a percussionist and equally enjoy teaching it.
I've been teaching private percussion lessons for 4 years, I have taught drum set, orchestral percussion, steel pan, and keyboard percussion lessons. I am currently certified to teach K-12 general, instrumental, and vocal music. I have experience teaching a wide array of ages for multiple reasons. Whether you would like help with preparing an audition, prepping for a recital or competition, want to improve on some fundamental things, or just learn an instrument for fun, I am happy to help you with any route you choose to take! I'm just excited that you are looking to learn more about music, regardless of the reason why.
In order to ensure the student's success, our first lesson will entail a conversation about what your goals are for the lessons. We will talk about what kind of experience you have and what you're looking to get out of the lessons. This way I will be able to gauge where your skill set/rhythmic competency is, and I will be able to tailor our lessons to your goals and skill sets. Gauging your experience and fundamentals will help provide for a better learning experience, it is important that the underlying fundamentals are present for the goals we set for you. And if they are not, no worries, we will work on them together!
My main priority in our lessons is that you are getting the information and enjoyment out of it that you want. I will constantly be checking in with you to make sure that you are satisfied with what we are working on. I am excited that you are inviting me along in your music journey, and I am happy to help you no matter what your end goals may be with music. I believe in celebrating small victories and progress is progress no matter the size of the step. So long as you are enjoying the materials, lessons, repertoire, and experience, I will have considered our lessons a success!
