I've been teaching music since I was a college student. For the last 10 years, I've been teaching private lessons and have discovered that each student brings a totally different and refreshing outlook to our music lessons. Because of this, I try to tailor each lesson to make sure that the student has fun, learns, and is able to ultimately perform. There's nothing like having that feeling of accomplishment when you are able to finally put into practice what you have taken the time to learn! Even the most shy and unsure student can find a way to put what they've learned into practice. 

For my piano students I typically use Alfred's Piano books for both children and adults. This series of books, I believe, does a great job of creating a starting point for younger and older students. Along with those books, I encourage the study of scales and other warm ups. For my voice students I partner with the student to find songs that the student will love to sing. My instruction for vocal technique is based on getting the student to have a free, beautiful sound through the use of breathing and vocalises (warmups).
