Certificate in Music Performance - Jazz Studies (Electric Bass), University of the Arts Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, Rutgers University, Camden Masters of Education, Science and the Public, SUNY Buffalo
Trained in Jazz, with a passion for Funk and Rock, I aspire to blend all of my influences into an improvisational and musical style. I've had the fortune of touring with Dave Weiner and auditioning for Guitar God Steve Vai. Currently located in Lancaster, PA I'm hoping to spread the joy of music and musicianship to any and all looking to be Jedi Masters of Bass! My style is easy going, yet motivational. While I prefer online lessons, I'm happy to host students at my home studio that live in the Lancaster area. Breathe in. Inspire.
I've taught bass for over 30 years. In high school I was the "go to" instructor to my fellow students and after college I racked up years more teaching experience at The Music Workshop in Manayunk, PA. My passion for music and teaching has extended to my role as Part-Time Lecturer for Rutgers University, where I teach "Psychology of Music." My Slap technique is broken down on videos I've posted on YouTube and, through them, I've acquired a handful of online students. I'm excited to now be a part of the Musika team and to dedicate my efforts to their students ... you!
My first lesson will focus on: - Your goals (short-term and long-term) - Your ability level - The time you have available - A strategy for combining the above to maximize the achievement of your goals Once we have a strategy, we will shoot for small successes so as to maintain inspiration. After each success, we'll work on your strengths to overcome your weaknesses. Every month we'll re-evaluate your goals to ensure that our trajectory stays customized to you and your newly acquired set of skills.
I don't think any one teaching method is correct for all students, but I do think one process does - flexibility. Based on the goals and needs of the student, I like to cater lessons such that short-term goals are achieved as inspiration to master long-term goals. Whether that is learning one's favorite songs one at a time, or reading music, or learning fretboard theory, or a combination of them towards a dynamic improvisational style. The overarching goal is fun. A fun learning environment is ripe for progress. This is the flexible process I aspire to achieve.
