No degrees, however ive done all the coursework for the umass music major program, and ive also taken a semester for beginer music about five years back at asnuntuck community college (and learned nothing new from it). I am self taught (never had a teacher) and so i compensated this "unofficial" education with rigerious practice, constant reference, and an almost fanatacial devotion. ive been playing for 9 years now and my music theory is solid,as well as my guitar technique.
ive had the honor of playing at strangecreek music festival, great north music festival in maine, and ive also traveled over the country playing with every music person i coud find. ive played at weddings and also at parties(ranging from small to extremely large)
Hello! i am a passionate music instructor who really enjoys watching a student grow in their abilities. ive been playing for nine years and teaching for three, and i can answer any and all questions pertaining to the guitar or bass guitar. i am also fluent in theory and can communicate abstract ideas into managable bits of information for a student. Being self taught myself i know everyone has the ability to learn how to play music, and i encourage anybody of any age to take the time to explore the fufilling world of music.
ive began teaching three years ago to my little cousins. after a couple weeks their abilities improved significantly. my aunt, impressed at their progress, refered me to some of her friends, and i began teaching adults as well as children. when a student is learning, i like to focus on exactly what is interesting to them, and show them the concept to the point of understanding. if the student isnt having fun, then nobody wins! i really enjoy seeing my students compose their own original songs and eventually gain the confidence to perform. im always looking for any students who wish to better their understanding of music regardless of ability or age.
For absolute beginners(which i have experience with) i typically show them a couple open chords to practice.this teaches the student how to place their fingers and also how to properly hold a guitar.once the student is a little proficient, i introduce single notes on the fretboard, as well as a few more open chord shapes and task them to make a simple song in any style that pleases them. For adults, i typically find out what their interested in and tailor the lesson accordingly. the goal is to keep the student encouraged and aware of their own progress regardless of starting ability level.
The lesson is really up to the student. i can show them the fundememntals if asked but i much prefer to guage what the student already knows and teach them whatever area theyre interested in. my lessons are never overbearing or rushed and the student is given as much time as they need per lesson to grasp and utilise a concept. my job really is to tailor mylessons for the students enjoyment and progress;and i love seeing the progress!!
