I'm an enthusiastic and encouraging instructor, who loves to share my passion for music with stduents. In 2012, I graduated from Ithaca College with Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Composition and Music Theory. I spent the past year teaching composition, choral directing, and accompanying undergraduate performance majors at a study abroad institute in Vienna, Austria. I will be starting a Master of Music degree in Theory this Fall.
Through my seven years of teaching piano, I have worked with a variety of students ages 5-75. I emphasize technique and music theory alongside excellent repertoire. The student and I generally choose repertoire together, so that both of us can be excited to work on the pieces together. As a composer, I also encourage my students to create their own music.
For beginning students who are children, I utilize the Alfred and Bastien lesson book series. When the student has grasped basic fundamentals, I move away from the method books and into appropriate solo repertoire. For adults, I create custom plans and materials to guide my instruction according to the student's interests and goals.
I develop a lesson plan before every lesson and set realistic goals for each of my students. I spend the first couple of lessons assessing what kind of learner a new student is, that way I can cater more closely to their learning style.
