Overview:
I have always been very talented at playing piano and singing. I started taking private lessons in 1984 when I was seven years old and at 13 began to teach as a cadette teacher in a private music studio. In 1991 my father married a nationally known singing artist and that is when I began to learn a lot about the piano. I picked up tips from many of the best musicians in Nashville. I went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University on scholarship in Music Education and Piano Performance. Currently I am the Worship Pastor of a church where I lead a team of vocalists and musicians weekly in our church services. I have an excellent gift to teach and with every lesson taken, folks tend to leave better than when they came as I am a very uplifting person.
EXPERIENCE
With a lot of my piano ability I have taught myself and typically amaze people when playing a song. Not that I'm any better than anyone else but the gift that I have is something very precious. Therefore I love sharing this gift with others. I have been teaching for nearly a year now and have been very successful at it. I have students ranging from 5 years old to 55. I teach from primary theory books and also teach to play by ear. Most folks have enjoyed learning to play the way I play a piano.
METHODS USED
For beginner students I start with basics. Keys, lines, spaces, sharps, flats, etc. I typically recommend a basic beginner level at the child or adult level. For students wanting to play by ear I teach chords and rythym including phrasing, fill ins, intro's, ending, the utilization of transposing etc.
LESSON STYLE
I typically start my lessons with something positive about the day and start with scales. I am very laid back and let children (if they're taking the lesson) enjoy themselves and have fun because piano should be fun, as it is very rewarding to those who play well. For adults I gather from what the student is able to do on the piano from the first lesson and then go from there. If the student has never sat at a piano we go from there and if the student has some knowledge or more then I start teaching where they are.
