I am a musician who believes in giving the gift of music to others. I am currently working on my teachers certification to become a full time band director. I play in a wide variety of ensembles both at UT Tyler and in the east texas community at large. With me you will be getting someone who is truly invested in your musical education. Rather it's your first time picking up an instrument or your looking to get your chops back after years of playing. Let me help you in your musical journey. I look forward to seeing you at a lesson sometime.
My teaching experience goes back to as soon as I finished high school. In my time at TJC I was a section leader tasked with leading rehearsals and lessons for the saxophone section. At this time I also taught as a marching band technician during the summer time for schools preparing to go to marching contests. At point I was also a substitute teacher for TISD. This gave me a large amount of teaching and classroom management experience. I believe in teaching a student's the basic's of both music and there instrument so they can take what I give them and apply it to many different styles
For beginning students I tend to start with them learning the basic elements of the instruments and go over exercises that help familiarize them with the instrument. I then will start the student in the Hal Leonard's Essential ELements of books. After they have gained a grasp of the fundamentals I will start to focus more on the type of music they will learn. For example if they are interested in jazz I would have them start to go over standards. Or if they were interested in classical music I would have them go over classical solo repertoire.
I feel that one of the most satisfying things to watch is your students growing into musicians in there own right. I also feel that students should learn and study music that they feel a passion for. I want to help them achieve this by having good fundamentals on there instrument that we can then apply to the musical style of there horn. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students so that they never get frustrated. I also try and introduce then to artists and music in the styles that they are interested. Through all of this I hope to see them grow as a musician.
