8 years studying classical and jazz through the Mesa public school system 2 years studying jazz performance at Mesa Community College 8 years performing and recording in Hollywood California 2 years studying music production at Casa Distortion Studio in Los Angeles
I've been performing and studying music for over 23 years now. My first instrument was trumpet where i played in every band my school had to offer, jazz, classical, orchestral, pep and marching band. I carried my musical knowledge over to bass when I was 19 and never looked back. I feel like the bass is where I was meant to be. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping my students achieve their musical goals. I have some amazing teachers in my life that completely changed my life. I'd love to be that for some one else.
I really began teaching when I became section leader in my high school marching band. I was in charge of teaching new music to my section. From that experience I leaned so much. After that I continued my education at Mesa Community College, where I studied music performance. While attending I studied privately and played in small combos. After I left MCC I went on tour with my rock band that eventually landed me in Los Angeles. In LA I gigged around town, wrote and did studio work. I also studied music production. Now I live in Arizona where I perform and teach full time.
I approach teaching in a very specialized why to every student I have. First I asses where you currently are as a player and discuss where you would like your playing to go. After I know where you want to go I can then tailor my teaching to your specific wants. Sometimes that’s teaching songs and sometimes it’s teaching theory. If your wanting to know how to read music or tabs I can help with that as well. In my experience I have found that there are so many ways to get to where you want to go. My job is to help you find your way.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs..
