Simply put, I love music. I listen to music and make music and teach music in different styles, on different instruments, in different ways. I've recorded and performed on trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar, ukulele, tuba, and more. I've played with symphony orchestras in Carnegie Hall and with rock bands in Brooklyn basements. I've shared the stage with jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones), and rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). Music is my passion. My goal is to share that passion with you and help you accomplish your dreams!
I have been teaching since the year 2000, and currently maintain a diverse studio of 10-20 students ranging in age from elementary school to mid-50s. My mission is to help students clearly define their goals in music-making, and lay out a plan to accomplish those goals. Competitions and recitals are strictly optional--there is no pressure here.
Your lessons with me will be custom oriented to your goals. You will learn confidence in your abilities to perform well and have fun. I emphasize the areas of music that are most relevant to your successful practice and performance. My students reach their maximum potential quickly and with confidence. With my expertise and your dedication, we'll have fun and you'll come away from each lesson with something new to work on.
Learning how to play an instrument, how to read music, and the three Ts can be overwhelming, to say the least! My job is to coach students as they become familiar with the hows and whys of their new or familiar instrument. The most thorough knowledge comes from a self-motivated sense of wonder and drive for exploration. With me as your guide, you can discover all that your instrument and its music has to offer!
