Overview:
I began taking piano lessons under the tutelage of two professors at the age of five. I continued these lessons until I turned 24. At 16 I began to work professionally as a musician. I have always loved music and play most every day. I feel that God gives us all gifts and music is one of them. I would love to have the opportunity to share my gift with others by helping them to create and mold their talent for their enjoyment, and for the enjoyment of others. The key to learning music is not only for enjoyment and listening pleasure; however, it also helps one learn to succeed at challenges, conquer mathematics, conquer social anxiety, communicate, and have a lucrative career.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching my first student when I was in high school. I enjoyed it so much that I decided then that I would incorporate teaching piano in my future. After I had my twins and became a stay at home mom, I began to teach students in my studio. I was instructed by two professors for almost 20 years in private lessons. I have played for more than 300 weddings, funerals, and receptions. I have also played with various bands. I have been employed by churches as their pianist, and currently I accompany a soloist at a church which I attend regularly.
METHODS USED
My methods vary as do each and every one of my students. I feel that a classical background is paramount in learning proper technique in piano. The student can add his/her own genre to the mix, once the fundamentals are achieved. (In fact, I recommend this highly). I like to offer some of the apps that Apple and Android computers have as there are many and suitable for all ages/levels. It is also imperative that the student concentrate on a workbook to ensure their timing, notation, chords, etc.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is for my students to succeed. Since I have an Administrators degree and have concentrated on many Healthcare/Science classes regarding disabilities, I can tailor my lessons to students who may be dyslexic or have ADHD. Some students are visual learners, where others respond more to sound. I also encourage students to develop their ears as this enables them early on to be able to recognize notes and to play without music. Music is a gift and I love to share my ability with others.
