My greatest strength is that I take the student at the level they are at and progress from there. Some of my worst teachers took me from their advanced level and expected me to match that. A student needs to go at their own pace, not someone else. That way they are constantly being successful. Going at someone else pace only makes you constantly fail. I am continuing to learn new music and improve my own skills with the instruments and singing. Teaching isn't really completed a job. It is a continuing learning and completion process. I am a graduate of the University of Arizona. There I received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas, as well as Arizona. My certification is for Kindergarten through High School, all levels of music. I have also has a certification to teach general classes at the Elementary Level K-5th grade from Sam Houston University.
I have taught general music in three school districts: 10 years in Tomball Texas; 5 years in Huffman Texas and 3 years in Tempe Arizona. In addition to teaching in the public schools, I have been teaching privately for 20 years. I have owned and operated a studio for 7 years. The studio was sold because of the tremendous overhead. Now I teach exclusively on line through Skype, Zoom, Google Meet and Discord. Throughout the years I have taught voice, guitar and piano. My students have ranged in ages from 3 to 93. I have been teaching private as well as group lessons. I have also served as a Music Director for the Houston Family Arts Center. Houston Family Arts Center and Actors Academy is a community theater in Houston, Texas.
Piano: The Mayron Cole Piano Method (all levels) This method encourages sight reading instead of just memorization. Being musically literate enables the student to work through new music by themselves. Students who progress through each level will emerge as independent literate musicians, who can read, write and create music! Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method (teens - adults) Kids Guitar Course/Alfred Publishing (children) Progressive Lead Guitar (all levels) Aaron Shearer “Classic Guitar Technique” (all levels) Students will play all kinds of music, from classical to country and rock. Beginners will develop the basics: reading music, tablature, tuning, chords, and scales. Experienced players will improve technique, chord and scale theory, ear training and performance Voice: The goal is to help you access the core of your body to bring out the best singing voice possible. Whether you want to sing classical music, musical theater, country, gospel, pop or rock, the vocal technique and musical training you will receive will enable you to sing any style of music with more efficiency and ease. Voice lessons build a strong and healthy voice as you create confidence in performing.
I'm inviting everyone to experience what great fun music can be. The secret to my success is to make lessons rewarding and educational. My entire teaching philosophy is that of fun. Music theory and music literacy is a priority. My enthusiasm and dedication to training the musicians of tomorrow is evident in my teaching. I believe that music should be a pleasurable, positive experience to boost self-esteem. With the convenience of me coming in to your home, this will give you an emotional outlet as only music can do. The main focus is on helping students gain the skills they need to enjoy the arts long after the lessons are over, for a lifetime.
