Overview:
Originating from East Chicago, IN, I've known since 3rd grade that I wanted to build a career in music. Over the years I've been able to find my niche, and focus on engineering, composing, and playing live. I've recently come to really enjoy teaching. I find pure joy in watching students make even the slightest improvements (provided they practice :). Everyone that I've taught has walked away with a better understanding of music, empowering them to advance in ways they would otherwise not be able to. My multifaceted music career is 10+ years long and still going strong. Although it hasn't always been an easy road, my faith, passion, and purpose keep me pushing.
EXPERIENCE
I took guitar lessons, bass lessons, as well as piano lessons when I was a kid. I also interned at music studios and sat in on live audio gigs to learn that aspect as well. I have been playing for artists/bands live and in the studio (primarily on bass guitar) for almost 15 years now. From country, gospel, blues, to classic rock. Most of my experience teaching is with small children. I feel as though I connect most with teens and small children. I make it easy for children to play as soon as possible.
METHODS USED
Most of my students (who don't already know) start off with basic theory (Major Scale & Major and Minor Chord Formulas). Whatever their ultimate goal for learning would determine where I would take it from there. If your goal is to play one song for your significant other we can do just that. If your goal is to perform we can cater to that as well. Maybe you're goal is to learn enough to write your own songs. I'll show you how to do that as well. I like the interactive approach when it comes to playing. I like to keep them engaged by actually using their hands on their instrument as much as possible.
LESSON STYLE
I believe I am a friendly guy at heart, so I tend to be friendly with the students. There are times where I have to tell them, for example, "You haven't been practicing.". But I try my best to do that in love while encouraging them when I see even the smallest improvement. I feel as though the key is to play as much as possible. That can be hard to do when you feel like you don't know how to play. So keeping it fun in the beginning is key. I like to start by helping students learn to play songs they already like to listen to. That way they stay engaged.
