I am a guitar instructor based in Los Angeles. I have more musical instruments than furniture in my house. I regularly perform in a number of ensembles in the area. I'm involved with a local gamelan ensemble (Indonesian percussion music), the Elizabeth Waldo Orchestra, and the Music Center of Los Angeles as an artist educator.
I have been teaching with Musika since 2005, and have been doing private instruction since 1987.
I am on the active artist's roster for Cirque de Soleil.
I have performed in just about every music venue and university in the Los Angeles area, done a variety of Ivy League tours with Bali and Beyond gamelan ensemble.
I use Faber and Faber for piano, Hal Leonard and/or Mel Bay for guitar, and I actually wrote my own percussion.
My first emphasis is that you have to like what you're playing. I really try to focus on what music gets the student excited. For some of them, it comes quickly. Others it might take a while, and that is okay. Once I find the switch that engages the student's interest, that is my focus. I really emphasize getting students to read music and also understand the key components of music theory, so that they understand what it is they are playing.
