Hello, I am a guitarist of about ten years, and a teacher of about five. I am passionate about music of all sorts. I have experience performing in multiple genres across the board, and also play and teach other instruments. I am a music major at Crafton Hills College, and am still in the process currently. I am an adept teacher and have taught many students on the guitar, taking them from beginners or intermediates to advanced players with high musical proficiency. I would love to meet you and take your playing to the next level!
I have been teaching students in music for 5+ years now, with guitar being my primary instrument. I was initially self taught, learning mainly from the countless forums, videos, and banks of articles and knowledge that the internet had to offer, but that would only take me so far. I then decided to major in music, for which I'm still undertaking, which has taken my musicianship much higher. I use a combination of teaching styles accumulated from my own time learning to expedite my students progress, so they don't have to take as long as I did to get to their goals on their instrument.
I harken back to a variety of literature in music to teach music and instrument theory, as well as instrumental proficiency. Some of my favorite works for guitar instruction are Guthrie Govan's Creative Guitar 1 and 2 as well as Carl Fischer's Guitar Grimoire. I typically will adjust my teaching style based on the age and experience of the student, as well as the goals put forth, as I believe it is imperative to meet a student at their specific aspirations. There are fundamentals and techniques that transcend style or genre, but beyond many of these fundamentals, I am particularly keen on making students excited about playing and practicing their instrument, and most importantly having fun!
I am a very big proponent of adaptable teaching, specifically adjusting to the students, wants, needs and goals. I love teaching students what THEY want to learn, and applying my knowledge of music theory and instrument theory in a fun and applicable way to their interests, thereby making music theory less of a snore and chore, while also getting the students excited for more. I love highlighting students excellence and seeing the joy of finally nailing something they've practiced, but even more so I love working through aspects that are particularly challenging for a student, as the reward is even greater after doing so.
