I am a musician with a passion for sharing my craft with others. I have an extensive background in instrumental music and music production. Violin is my primary instrument, but I am also proficient in many other string and percussion instruments. I have prior classroom teaching experience at the high school level, where I also directed and conducted musicals. I own a fully functioning multi-track home recording studio that I use to compose and produce music of varying genres. I received my degree in music education at the University of Indianapolis.
Most of all I enjoy sewing the seed of passion that I received when I began playing my first guitar at the age of 8, and nurturing that which has brought me to love and enjoy the music I experience everyday of my life. I hope that everyone of my students gets out of the each lesson exactly what they came for and more. Whether you are looking for a hobby, trying to reach mastery, or just want to learn a few tunes for a loved one, I want to focus the lesson to your desire. Music is our universal language and I want everyone to be able to use it for there own purpose in life. This is why I highly encourage music literacy throughout the lesson, and always reference music notation.
Students will likely begin in a method book of some form, and eventually will use supplementary material as needed. The method books for Younger students typically consists of 3 or more levels depending on their skill, while the method books for older students provide a good outline of the technique for the instrument. The supplements provide materials to develop musicianship and artistry through repertoire. This approach allows the lesson to be tailored to the students' overall purpose for taking the lessons.
Progress is not always easy when learning to play a new instrument. Everyone learns at there own pace, and with each lessons I will set attainable goals for the student. it is best when students have varying difficulties of material within their material in order to provide opportunity for satisfaction despite whatever struggles they may have. I encourage daily practice, even if only for small amounts of time. Effective practice requires some level of independence, and I focus a lot our time on the art of practicing, and how to focus your attention in order to get the best out of your practice time.
