I'm a Professional Drummer, Clinician, Private Instructor, Music Producer, Life Coach, and New England Conservatory of Music Graduate. I've been blessed to have played all types of music both on the East Coast and Internationally. I've had the opportunity to study with incredible teachers such as Billy Hart, Bob Moses, and Jerry Leake. I'm at home when I'm playing or listening to R&B/Soul, Hip Hop, Jazz, Classical, and Funk. I program Hip Hop and Future Soul beats in Los Angeles, and like to incorporate them into lessons in different scenarios. I'm also into sports, weightlifting, jiu-jitsu, learning languages, and generally keeping my days as full as possible.
My approach to teaching is very simple. I want my students to be themselves, strive for excellence, become well-rounded drummers, and make drumming a lifelong passion. I have been teaching privately for almost 3 years, and proudly teach all ages and skill levels from beginning to advanced. Teachers can have a profound impact on their student’s lives. My job is to motivate and inspire students to pursue their goals. I take my work very seriously, and I care about all of my students. I want my students to teach me as much as I teach them. In the fall of 2014, I founded a drumming program with Family Quarters, Inc. that teaches group percussion classes to Autistic adults. Also during the fall of 2014, I conducted a semester of group percussion classes to elementary school students at Buker Elementary School in Hamilton, MA. I taught privately for over 2 years at The Drum Shop North Shore.
I've found the most successful drummers can read well and play all styles. For beginning students, I generally introduce 'Syncopation' by Ted Reed along with 'Stick Control,' the PASIC 40 Rudiments, 'Alfred's Drum Method' for drum set, and technical exercises. For more advanced students, I like to use books like Rick Latham's 'Advanced Funk Studies,' David Garibaldi's 'Future Sounds,' 'Portaits in Rhythm' by Anthony Cirone, and 'The Art of Bop Drumming' by John Riley. The more material you're introduced to, the more you'll be able to develop your own style. I'm extremely open-minded as a musician and teacher. I like to put students in charge so that they can develop as much self-motivation to practice and play as possible. But I also like to keep lessons unpredictable, so you're always on your toes ready for anything.
My lessons are all about you. I'm a firm believer in the Carol Dweck's 'Growth Mindset' mentality. There is no such thing as failure or disappointment. Only the opportunity for growth and learning. I promote the steady improvement of fundamentals for all ages and skill levels. Every student progresses at a different rate. I like to set goals on a regular basis to help push you to be the best you can be. If you want to play in school jazz band, start your own group, or simply to improve on drums, I will do whatever I can to help you achieve those goals.
