Course Work: Berklee College of Music
I am a guitar player specializing in rock, funk and jazz fusion. Born and raised in Atlanta, I moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. I spent several years touring the country with my band Mister F, who played well over 100 shows per year. I have been invited to play with blues/soul icon Robert Randolph, smooth jazz artist Earl Klugh, bands such as Twiddle, Aqueous and Mungion, as well as members of bands including Dopapod and Kung Fu. My teaching style is highly adaptive to each student’s individual tastes, skills and goals. I love teaching music and passing on my knowledge and passion for music. My main goal in teaching is to make sure all students are having fun and learning to be the best musician they can be!
I have been teaching guitar for over ten years. I have taught students of all ages, and all levels ranging from beginners to advanced jazz. I also specialize in music theory, with a vast knowledge and understanding of the theoretical side of music, which I gained from studying at Berklee College of Music. I have also directed students in bands of many different genres! I have worked as a professional musician alongside part time and full time teaching for my entire adult life. Both of these things are my passions and I love seeing students grow and advance musically!
I always start with new students by assessing their level. For most beginner students, I introduce open chords and basic single note playing, eventually leading to chord progressions and basic classic rock riffs. Beyond this, I always tailor my teaching to a student's tastes, as I know the best way to engage a student and keep them excited is to show them how to play their favorite music! If and when students become interested, I love to incorporate music theory into my lessons, alongside the technical aspects of instrumental technique.
I am somewhat lenient with my teaching style. I always give every student work to practice and improve upon for their next lesson. However, I am a firm believer that keeping a student's interest in music is best accomplished by allowing them to move at their own pace. I always want my students to be inspired and productive, and I also believe that a student should never feel forced into practicing their craft. As long as a student wants to learn, they will always be having fun! And having fun learning their instrument is the first key step in developing a passion and talent.
